Do you need to discharge the battery before recharging?

I received an ionator 2 years ago, and I love it. I loved it so much that I ordered 6 home units, one for each of my children, and another one for myself. For the past 2 months, I have noticed that it no longer holds its charge for very long...maybe a couple of hours or so. I only use it in my home, so it doesn't get an overabundance of use. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do, or does the whole unit need to be replaced? Thank you so much for your attention to this matter. Cynthia Keyes
